The mayonnaise and mustard soup cook-off

Posted on

One of the discoveries in the Dutch cuisine has been mustard soup. We’d never heard of it before (even with my husband Alex’s Dutch family) and we think it’s delicious.

I’d also been talking to neighbour Inge about home-made mayonnaise. We try and make as much as possible from scratch to avoid nasty additives, preservatives, colours – you know, all those unnecessary numbers on the labels. She wanted to give it a try too and so after discussing how to make mustard soup we decided to have a cook-off.

It was a lot of fun and need I say delicious, or as we say in Dutch heerlijk!

What do you do when:

  1. You find out after waiting about eight months your visa application will probably be denied and you may have to leave the country,
  2. You have no proper ingredients in the pantry,
  3. Your husband feels miserable and hungry and it’s his birthday the next day?

Make potato soup. Five ingredient comfort food. Everything feels better with a full belly.

Oh, and open some early birthday presents and feel loved.
