And so this is Christmas (5/5)

Posted on

So here we are at the last of the advent swap posts.

Day 21 – the world didn’t end and Zara gave me a lovely notebook from Typo; day 22 – a very sweet little piece of wall art/craft; day 23 – a gorgeous purse (you can never have too many of these I believe and love this fabric); Christmas Eve – cupcake shaped biscuit cutters and some very cute cupcake liners; and lucky last on Christmas Day – a very cool cushion cover made from a up-cycled tea-towel and a bag of Starburst lollies.

What I gave: a copy of my EP The Rest is Elsewhere; an awesome vintage copy of Little Women (a favourite); a handmade Christmas decoration; a Christmas themed Little Golden Book and lastly for Christmas day a handmade necklace and a scrabble fridge magnet of the letter Z of course.

The Advent Swap has been a lot of fun, both in the giving and receiving and I feel very spoiled to have had someone as creative as Zara to swap with. I’ve genuinely enjoyed the homemade gifts the most, the thought and the creativity that has gone into them have been much admired and appreciated.

And now that Christmas is here I am looking forward to relaxing in the company of my loved ones and this lovely little lady who insisted on snuggling into me while I was trying to take my photos!

May your Christmas be merry and bright. See you in the New Year.

The benefits of unemployment

Posted on

For the last ten months I’ve been unemployed. Not by choice, but by law. But just because you aren’t allowed to earn money doesn’t mean you can’t be productive. So here’s the list of what me and my trusty sewing machine have achieved since November 2011.

For me:

2 pairs of trousers

1 pair of shorts

2 dresses

1 blouse

2 long sleeved t-shirts

4 skirts

3 sleeveless tops

2 t-shirts

1 caftan

1 tunic

3 pairs of underpants

A quilt

6 napkins

For other people:

2 dresses

1 pair of African print trousers

2 pincushions

2 embroideries

1 gardening apron

1 pair of shorts

2 blouses

6 bags

7 purses

1 baby feely-mat

1 Christmas decoration

A wallet on a strap (for under clothing) for our travels

And a garter for a bride-to-be

And I’ll be off-line and having a blogiday (blogging holiday?) for a month or so, so thanks for you support and comments over the last few months and I look forward to connecting with you from the Southern Hemisphere in September some time.

Sewing with Inge

Posted on

I have a lovely next door neighbour. We have lots of fun sewing together and sharing our projects. It’s nice.

Last week we made a bag that she had seen on a blog she liked and we decided to have a go with some of the fabric from the great influx of May. Here are some photos of our progress.

I am wearing: Jeans – Vila; tank – homemade; cardi – Jason King in Utrecht; necklace – up-cycled vintage earring of my Gran’s; smile – stylists own.

Inge has also decided to have a blog too and you can see it here. It means At Home with Inge – it’s in Dutch, but you’ll get an idea in Google Translate.

Linking in here with Southern Hemisphere belles.

Inspired by Red

Bookclub tonight and at the last minute both of the other organisers pulled out and I’m flying solo! It’s one of those occasions where you need a little wardrobe confidence.

I love wearing red but this is one of those tops that really needs the right underwear, both in terms of colour and seam placement. As it happened I was already wearing what was required! Perfect.

Top – Noon (a shop in Amsterdam); jeans – Cheap Monday (a gift); shoes – super cheap from the market; earrings – from Korea (gift from little sis)

See what other lovely ladies are wearing over here.
